Camera inspection or barcode reading

J5 Stand

A lower-cost route to inspection and verification.

J5 Stand is designed as a lower-cost alternative to SSI's Vision Tower and Vision Tunnel. Configure it as either a camera inspection station or a barcode reading station for your application.

J5 can provide the same types of inspection or code-verification capabilities when the camera or reader, lighting, software, part presentation, and integration are matched to the job. SSI confirms the required coverage, throughput, and acceptance criteria during application review.

How it works

From the required check to the right response

The J5 configuration defines how each item is presented, inspected or read, evaluated, and reported. Outputs and downstream actions are selected for the application.

  1. Detect

    Present the part or code

Define the view, working distance, lighting, and trigger so the selected camera or barcode reader receives a repeatable presentation.

  2. Verify

    Inspect features or read codes

A camera configuration checks the selected visible features. A barcode configuration reads the required code and applies the configured verification rules.

  3. Decide

    Apply acceptance criteria

Application software evaluates the result against the agreed criteria and supplies the required pass, fail, or no-read status.

  4. Reject / log

    Coordinate the response

Operator feedback, an alarm, a hold signal, or a reject request can be included when required. Physical reject equipment and its controls are scoped separately.

  5. Report

    Record results as scoped

Define any required counts, timestamps, images, CSV exports, database records, or MES handoffs as part of the software and integration scope.

Typical scope

Typical scope

Confirm the inspection or barcode task, equipment selection, performance requirements, and integration before finalizing the J5 configuration.

Line speed
Reviewed against the required throughput, exposure or read time, presentation, and decision timing for the application.
Product spacing
Manual or line presentation, orientation, spacing, working distance, and trigger timing are defined around the selected camera or barcode reader.
Inspection type
Either camera inspection of selected visible features or barcode reading and verification. Capabilities depend on the camera or reader, lighting, software, presentation, and integration selected.
Reject method
Operator feedback, alarm, hold, or reject-request outputs may be included as required. Physical reject hardware and confirmation are separate scope items.
Data outputs
Pass/fail or read status, counts, timestamps, images, CSV, or database records can be scoped to the application's reporting requirements.
PLC/MES integration
Required triggers, result signals, alarms, handshakes, and data connections are defined with the controls or production systems team.
What SSI needs to quote
Required inspection or code checks, representative samples, labels and defect examples, throughput, presentation, available space, acceptance criteria, and output or data needs.
Buyer fit

Choose the configuration for the check you need.

Start with the inspection or code-reading requirement. J5 offers a lower-cost platform choice when the required views, presentation, and integration fit the application.

Best fit for

  • Camera inspection or barcode reading at a defined checkpoint
  • Applications seeking a lower-cost alternative to Vision Tower or Vision Tunnel
  • Workflows with defined product presentation and acceptance criteria
  • Projects where camera or reader selection can be matched to the required check

Camera inspection configuration

  • Presence, orientation, and feature verification
  • Label, package position, or assembly checks
  • Visible defect screening with suitable views and lighting
  • Dimensional or feature checks when image geometry supports them

Barcode reading configuration

  • Barcode, QR, and 2D-code reading with a suitable reader
  • Code presence, readability, and expected-value checks
  • Part, label, lot, or serial verification as configured
  • Read/no-read or pass/fail feedback matched to the workflow

Integration requirements

  • Camera or reader position, working distance, and part presentation
  • Lighting, triggering, and application software
  • Operator feedback, PLC signals, alarms, or hold requests as needed
  • Reject equipment, result logging, and data handoffs when included in scope

What SSI needs to quote

  • Camera inspection or barcode reading requirement
  • Product photos, sample parts, labels, and defect examples
  • Required checks, acceptance criteria, and target throughput
  • Presentation, available space, response, and data requirements
